Gym Etiquette
While the Gym provides an excellent means to improve ones health and fitness. There are certain etiquettes Gym members should be mindful of.
1 - Return the weights back to their Original place, this also includes removing the weights from a bar and putting the weights back. Not only does leaving the weights on the floor make it difficult for other Gym users to find them, but leaving weights around in the Gym can cause danger.
2 - Clean up once you finish - No ones likes to use equipment that’s drenched in sweat. Cleaning up after use solves this problem and shows you are mindful of others.
3 - Dropping the weights – Unless it can’t be helped one should not deliberately drop their weights in an uncontrolled manner. Dropping ones weights on the gym floor can cause 2 things. A potential damage to the equipment and a distraction to others.
4 – Hogging the Gym equipment- There are several examples of this. Some Gym members are known to sue up to 5 different dumbbells at the same time. You should only use one dumbbell at a time and return it to its original place and then use your next desired weight. Also, if it’s busy in the gym and you are with your friends using particular Gym equipment and talking at the same time. Be considerate to your fellow Gym users waiting to use the equipment, It’s not uncommon to see a group of friends sitting on a bench talking while others are hanging around waiting to find a spare bench to use.
5 – Socialising in the Gym - No, we are not advocating a ‘no talk policy’ and an unfriendly approach to working out in the Gym. There are a few key things Gym members should be mindful of. Not interrupting someone while they are training. It’s good to be sociable and friendly however one should not try to strike up a conversation with someone while they concentrating on their workouts in the gym.
6 – Asking for a spot – If you need someone to assist you, make sure they are free and not in the middle of their workout. Timing is the essence don’t ask someone to spot you when they in between sets. Ask a member of staff or wait till to ask someone has finished a particular exercise or their workouts. Also, try and limit the spotters time limit to as short as possible. The last thing anyone wants to do is spot you for 5 sets.
